The world is pursuing various initiatives to realize a decarbonised society. One option is utilising a co-firing verification test with ammonia. This does not emit CO2 during combustion, and is steadily being promoted in Japan.
Torishima has made a business alliance with HERMETIC of Germany during this fiscal year, and has been moving forward to developing an in-tank pumping system that can safely deliver large amounts of fuel ammonia. In October, we jointly held a seminar entitled ‘Torishima Strives towards a Decarbonised Society’ to announce our latest venture. The event was a great success with a total of over 200 attending over two days on 24th in Tokyo and 26th in Osaka October.
In the seminar, we introduced the company overviews of Torishima and HERMETIC, making presentations on “Environmental Safety and Reliability of Sealless technology for Liquified Gas Applications/Ammonia” and “Submerged pump Technology, Design, Reliability and Actual Examples” from HERMETIC, and on “Torishima’s Initiatives and Technology for a Decarbonised Society (Pumps for Liquefied Gas Application)” from Torishima. During the Q&A session, many questions were raised, showing the great interest in and expectations of fuel ammonia.
Non-seal in-tank pumping systems will play an important role in the commercialisation and expansion of co-firing thermal power generation using the fuel ammonia. Torishima, which has been providing pumping systems to power plants for 100 years, and HERMETIC, one of the world leaders in canned motor pumps, have joined forces to commit to meeting the market needs.
