2015.09.10
Torishima has received an order for construction of the Project for Upgrading of Mechanical System for Sewerage and Drainage Service in Gujranwala from Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Gujranwala.
Gujranwala is the 7th biggest city in Pakistan and located in Panjab, 250km northeast of Harrapa which is a well-known archaeological site of the Indus Civilization. Besides the ancient civilization, this area is profoundly influenced by different cultures and history such as the eastern expedition by Alexander and Buddhist art which flourished during the era of Gandhara. Actually, despite the fact that Muslims account for 97% of the total population in Pakistan, you can find a variety of important cultural properties in the museum such as Buddha statues and relics of the British colonial period as well as Islamic collections.
The downtown area of Gujranwala is situated at a strategic point along with the major Grand Trunk Road highway, commonly called G.T. road, stretching from east India to west Afghanistan. The road however, has been experiencing flood damage in recent years due to the worsening performance of aging drainage pumps, especially from July to September with the high frequency of monsoonal downpour. This obstructs the flow of goods, services and people.
In order to solve this problem, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Pakistani government came to an agreement that 9 pumping stations within the area would be updated under the initiative of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA). Torishima won a bid and received the order for supply and installation of pumps, motors, intermediate shafts, piping equipment, electric switchboards and in-house generation systems. We have launched a special team for this project, and have proceeded with the design and production work. The project is expected to be completed in December 2016.
